As the communication between countries in the world are getting more frequent, the competition of cultural soft power has become an essential part of international competition,so it is necessary to communicate between different cultures.Tang Poems and Song Ci are the treasures of Chinese culture, and 1Su Shi's2ci-poems are the symbol of the peak period of Song Ci's development.Su Shi's ci-poems are quite representative of the history of Chinese Song Ci.At present,a large number of scholars have studied Su's ci-poems and its related translation, and have obtained valuable conclusions. However, there are few studies on the translation of Su's ci-poems from the perspective of rhetoric representation. Thus, the thesis mainly compares and analyzes the five English versions of Su Shi's Chi Bi Huai Gu,including the translation versions of Xu,Zhao,Yang and Gladys Yang,Zhu and Hou.The most of the five versions are the main research subjects of other scholars who are researching Chi Bi Huai Gu,and this study compare and analyze the five versions at the same time to make a more comprehensive and systematic study of Chi Bi Huai Gu's translation to make a comparative analysis on reproduction of pragmatic rhetoric, providing more theoretical methods for poetry translation research. This thesis discusses Song Ci's translation research deeply, and continues to explore issues or disagreements in Song Ci's translation research, for example,1)whether Song Ci is translatable or not;2)content and form in the process of Song Ci translation are equally important, then, when the both cannot be reproduced at the same time, from the perspective of translation, the thesis studies which one is more important;3)how the rhetoric is represented in the translation of Song Ci;4)through comparative evaluation, the thesis tests whether the Pragma-Markedness Equivalence Principle can be a fair judgment of the quality among good translations on Song Ci-poems and other poetry, and grasp their style and characteristics.Based on the Pragma-Markedness Equivalence Value translation theory, through comparison, the study finds the advantages and disadvantages among the good translations and finds their characteristics. The above four issues are the main research questions of this study. In this process, this research is based on the collected data, and then mainly uses these methods, including theoretical interpretation, observational description, case analysis, comparative research to analyze the four main questions and find out the causes, related elements behind findings and the causes behind them. Finally, the research finds that: 1)Song Ci is translatable;the focus of Song Ci's translatability lies in whether the quintessence and emotions can be fully reproduced, and often the quintessence of Song Ci is hidden in the use of rhetoric;2)the characteristics of Song Ci itself require that Song Ci's translation should not simply follow the currently acknowledged translation criteria, but should fully reproduce the artistic conception and thoughts in Song Ci.And content and form are equally crucial in Song Ci's translation, but in most cases, when both cannot be achieved at the same time, meaning reproduction is more important than form reproduction for translation;3)rhetoric reproduction in the translation of Song Ci should follow the rhetorical characteristics and rhetorical usage in the original text. The rhetoric reproduction should take into account the corresponding rhetoric of the target language culture.4)The Pragma-Markedness Equivalence Principle can be a fair judgment of the quality among good translations on Song Ci and other poetry, and grasp their style and characteristics. The degree of rhetoric reproduction determines whether the original text is fully reproduced. However, the rhetoric reproduction of general literary translation is not critical, and even sometimes it can be abbreviated. The enormous practical significance of this research is to give more explicit theoretical guidance and better practice guidance,in addition,to provide more inspiration and guidance for Song Ci and poetry translation's amateurs, learners, and teachers who are specializing in translation.
