Reading is an important part in English teaching in Junior High School and it is a main way for learners to get information.So reading plays an important role in English teaching in Junior High School.However,students are lack of interest in English reading in rural area at present and the effects of the teaching are not obvious.So it's necessary for teachers to find a new method to teach English reading.Mind Map is a tool that can visualize information.Specifically,it can clearly show the long and complicated structure and content of the text by combining keywords with different kinds of shapes and lines and then matching rich colors.So it is easy for learners to learn and understand the text.There are many researches on English teaching,but the research on school teaching in the rural area is not perfect.Therefore,this thesis introduces Mind Map into rural English classrooms.The purpose is to give rural students a newer method that can be used in reading and stimulate their reading interest and help improve their grades and ability.The research is based on the application of Mind Map in teaching at home and abroad and the theoretical basis is Knowledge Visualization and Brain Science Theory.It aims at exploring the effect of Mind Map on rural students' English reading interest and grades.100 students in two parallel classes of Grade 8 of a Junior High School in a town of Suide County in Yulin are chosen to be the experimental subjects.They are set to be the control class and experimental class randomly.The experiment is carried out in experimental class which lasts for 4 months.The changes of students' English reading interest and grades before and after the experiment are compared by questionnaire,test paper and interview.Then the data is analyzed by SPSS software.After analyzing all the data from the questionnaire survey,the scores of the pretestand post-test and the interview,the research comes two conclusions : First,after using Mind Map in English reading teaching,rural Junior high school students have a stronger interest in English reading.Second,applying to Mind Map in English reading teaching can develop rural Junior high school students' divergent thinking.Therefore it can help to improve students' English reading scores.Therefore,the application of Mind Map in English reading teaching in rural Junior high school not only has an active effect on students' interest and scores,but also opens up a different teaching method for rural teachers.The application of Mind Map can contribute to the improvement of students and teachers,then improve the teaching quality in rural area.
