In order to meet needs for the cultivation of high-quality and innovative talents of the society,Nanyang City,Henan Province has introduced the teaching model of Queries and Explorations in Three Steps,which has been applied in all-level schools in Nanyang.However,in the past decade practice in junior English classes,the teaching model has not achieved the expected teaching targets and even some problems appeared,such as the mere formality,the inflexible use in different types of English classes.This study investigates and researches the achievements,existing problems and corresponding improvements of the teaching model in junior English classes through a case study of Shuanglong No.2 Middle School(Xixia County,Nanyang City).First of all,this paper reviews the research status of the related teaching models,and the concept,theoretical basis and implementation steps of Queries and Explorations in Three Steps.Secondly,the application status of the teaching model in English classes is investigated through classroom observation,questionnaire,and interview.According to the observation of different class types,the performance of the students and teachers in different types of English classes are obtained;The students' recognition on the model and their specific performance in every teaching steps are collected by the questionnaire survey of students;The current operation situation and problems in every teaching steps are explored through the questionnaire survey and interview of teachers.On the basis of the above investigation,the achievement andexisting problems of the teaching model applied in junior English classes are summarized.Finally,the several measures are proposed to improve the effectiveness of the model in junior English classes.The results show that the teaching model of Queries and Explorations in Three Steps has achieved the following achievements: creating a good classroom atmosphere and establishing a harmonious relationship between teachers and students;developing students' autonomous learning ability and cultivating their cooperative exploration and questioning spirit to a certain extent;promoting teachers' professional growth.However,the following problems exist: the teachers cannot use the model flexibly in different types of English classes;the teaching designs pay little attention to the students with learning difficulties;there is certain formalization in group cooperative learning;the teaching evaluation system remains to be improved.Therefore,the author suggests: using the teaching model flexibly according to the characteristics of different types of English classes;preparing lessons carefully to enrich the classroom teaching forms;establishing scientific cooperative learning groups to improve the efficiency of joint exploration;improving the evaluation mechanism and innovating the class evaluation system.The outcomes of this study provide some valuable experience for the practical application of the teaching model “Queries and Explorations in Three Steps in junior English classes enrich the connotation of the model and point out the direction for improving the application effectiveness of the model in junior English classes.
