For a long time, the mainstream model of English teaching in China has not paid enough attention to the development of students' English ability, especially the development of spoken language, which has caused "separation of learning and use".In order to solve the shortcomings of English teaching in China,Professor Wen Qiufang proposed a new theory of foreign language teaching with Chinese characteristics---"Production-oriented Approach"(hereinafter referred to as POA).This thesis attempts to apply POA to oral English teaching in a high school, and explores whether this method has a positive effect on students' oral production.Skehan pointed out that the three dimensions of complexity, fluency and accuracy are based on the distinction between language meaning and form, which comprehensively reflect the language ability of second language learners.According to these three dimensions, the specific research questions of this thesis are as follows:1.How does the "production-oriented approach" affect the fluency of high school students' oral production?2.How does the "production-oriented approach" affect the accuracy of high school students' oral production?3.How does the "production-oriented approach" affect the complexity of high school students' oral production? In this study,8 students in the second grade of a middle school in Yan'an were selected as the research objects, and the quantitative and qualitative research methods were used to conduct a 4-month oral teaching experiment.Quantitative research adopts the experimental research method. The 8 students were tested twice before and after the experiment. The data obtained were analyzed by SPSS software.Qualitative research uses interviews to know students' perception and acceptance of POA.The following conclusions are drawn through the experiment: First, students can continuously practice speaking through various sub-tasks in the classroom, and can reduce classroom anxiety, thereby maximizing the use of classroom time to practice speaking,so POA has a positive impact on the fluency of students' oral production..Second,in the input facilitation process, students can obtain the content, language form and discourse structure needed for production from the input materials.Through continuous practice and accumulation, the complexity of spoken language production will be significantly improved.Third, due to the limited English ability of students and the influence of attention distribution,POA has no significant effect on the accuracy of students' oral production. In actual operation, the author believes that there are the following shortcomings:first, the sample size of the selected experimental subjects is limited;second, the single input method;third, how much input materials teachers should provide to students in the facilitation process is reasonable and deserves further consideration. The above is the preliminary exploration of the combination of POA and high school oral teaching according to my own experience. The experiment needs further optimization, and the experimental conclusion needs further verification.I hope this article can provide some new ideas for oral teaching in high school,so as to help students improve their oral production ability.
