This paper is a report on C-E translation of the picture storybook Hua Mulan by Hu Bo,etc. This book was published by Hebei People's Publishing House in 1981 and tells the story of Hua Mulan who dressed up as a boy and joined the army on the frontlines in place of her father. This book is characterized by lots of ancient Chinese official titles and address terms,so the report discusses the official titles and address terms in ancient China and put forward the translation strategies and methods for these cultural terms.First, under the guidance of “telling well the stories of China”,and based on Hans Vermmer's skopos theory, the purpose of the translation practice is determined, that is to fully convey the original Chinese stories to readers.Second, according to the characteristics of children's picture storybooks, simple but appropriate vocabulary was chosen in the translation. The methods of substitution and explanation are provided to translate official titles and literal translation plus some adaptations are meant to translate address terms.Last but not least, the translation report sums up the experience of the practice, which to some extent expands the application of skopos theory in the translation of storybooks. The practice shows that,in the process of translating storybooks,it is vital to have adequate preparation before translation, grasp the skopos of the translation and fully convey the information.
