The source text of translation report is the excerpt from a well-known U.S.sinologist Maxwell K.Hearn's book Ancient Chinese Art:The Ernest Erickson Collection, which mainly introduces Ernest Erickson's gifts of more than one hundred pieces of ancient Chinese art collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.With the rapid development of cultural heritage and museology, the translation of related English texts will play a considerable role in promoting the cultural exchanges and understanding between Chinese and western civilizations as well as pushing Chinese culture to go global. The translation practice report consists of four parts.Part one is the description of the translation task, which mainly introduces the source of this material, the introduction of the author and his works, and the significance of the topic.Part two describes the translation process, which mainly introduces pre-translation work, such as the analysis of original text, the supplement of background knowledge, the conversion of document format, and the selection of auxiliary tools;the difficulty and key points encountered in translation,as well as the modification and polishing of the draft.Part three is case analysis,as the crucial part of this report, which includes detailed discussions about some typical translation examples at the lexical, syntactic and textual levels. The lexical level concentrates on the conversion of Wade-Giles romanization, proper nouns,as well as the types and names of cultural relics. The syntactic level puts emphasis on the translation of sentences with inanimate subjects, parenthetical sentences,as well as supplement. The textual level focuses on the word order adjustment and information addition through the perspective of the skopos theory, which enhances the coherence of discourses.Part four is the conclusion,in which the author summarizes the translation practice from the aspects of accumulating professional terms, making good use of network resources, and adopting translation methods.Through translation practices, the author realized the significance of accumulating knowledge of cultural relics, using auxiliary tools, and laying a solid foundation of language. In the future study, the author should not only deepen the understanding of professional knowledge in relevant fields, but also cultivate the sense of responsibilities of the translator.
