The study is concentrated on the language symbols of the official titles. Firstly, based on quite a lot of historical documents, the author classifies the ancient official titles into three categories: the first is the naming after " shou ming xiang rui" (that's to say when someone accepted an assignment as an official, a seemingly good sign may be discovered, thus using the sign as the official title ) ; the second is " wu xing si shi " (that's to use the five elements and four seasons as the official titles ); and the third is to use one's position as the name of the title. In the meantime, we find the phenomenon that the ancient official titles continue to be used in the next times. As a result, the name of the official titles falls short of the reality in duties. But the old names retain some information of the social politics, history, culture, ideology and some characteristics of the ancient Chinese, which provides some precious usable data for the study of these fields. This is where the author's creativity and originality exist and also is the focal point of the paper.The other focus is to make an overall research on the official titles' system from linguistic point of view. The author makes a detailed description and analysis on its language form, its structural characteristics and usage, and then compares the language of the official title with the general language. The official titles are formed after the general language changing and changed, which in turn gradually reenter and enrich the general language by overstepping the appellation terms.
