Asia is in the face of increasing severe water shortage, which is still lack of public attention. Therefore, the author seeks to raise the awareness of the public by providing relevant statistics and information. The Economist Intelligence Unit, the research arm of The Economist Group, conducted a series of surveys to explore the water management conditions in Asia and to offer solutions to water-related problems. The report is based on the translation of the report entitled Liquidity Premium:Managing Asia's Increasingly Scarce Water Resources.During the translation process, the translator found that some of the statements in the source text are not suitable for publishing and spreading in China.Meanwhile,André Lefevere,a well-known American translator and scholar, introduced the concept of “manipulation theory” and underscored the factors that exert considerable influence on the course of translation, which are ideology, poetics and patrons. Therefore, the translator applied the manipulation theory as the theoretical framework to guide the translation of the research report Liquidity Premium. The thesis will analyze the roles of the three factors in the translation of the source text into the target text and the selection of appropriate strategies during the translation practice. The translator finds that translation process is not only a transformation between languages, but also manipulated by ideology, poetic norms and patrons.Under the guidance of manipulation theory, the translator mainly uses the translation methods of rewriting, omission and amplification.Hence, during the translation process, the translator oughtto pay more attention to the non-linguistic factors so as to achieve better translation results.
