An Empirical Study Of Imagination Affecting College Students’ Musical Emotion

Emotion is a psychological phenomenon,which is common and complex with adaptability and motivation.It is also a spontaneous and external response from human beings,which can help individuals adapt quickly in complex and changeable environment.With the development of society,emotion has become a research hotspot in psychology.But the complexity of emotion itself makes it difficult to induce emotion.At present,there are two kinds of widely used emotion inducing methods.The first is external stimulation,including visual stimulation,auditory stimulation,trial listening combined stimulation,such as text,pictures,music,movies.The second is the internal induction of individual emotions,including recall / imagination induction and imagination induction.The former must be an event experienced by the individual,while the latter can be an event not experienced by the individual.In summary,First of all,the combination of music induced emotion in external induction and imagination induced emotion in individual emotion are used.Then,the music experience and personality characteristics of individual factors in music emotion induction are synthetically influenced.Finally,this paper bases on the above ways to explore the impact of imagination on college students’ music mood.In this study,behavioral experiments were used,including one pre experiment and two formal experiments.The main purpose of the pre experiment is the primary selection and evaluation of music materials.Its specific working process is to carry out the primary selection of music materials from "Grieg’s Piano Lyric essay selection".Then,some music materials with controversial structural style are removed to avoid too strong interference factors.In addition,the length,format and some basic parameters of the selected material are controlled.Finally,according to the evaluation results,six pieces of music materials were selected to enter the formal experiment.In Experiment 1,two factors are used in the experimental design,including imagination(imagination,no imagination)and major(music major,non music major).Whether there is imagination and different majors are independent variables between subjects.The dependent variable is the subject’s recognition and experience of music emotion.Accuracy and intensity are dependent variables.According to the above experiments,this paper mainly discusses the influence of imagination and music experience on music emotion.The results show that imagination has a significant effect on college students’ music emotion.Under the condition of imagination,the accuracy and intensity of music emotion recognition and experience are more significant.In this study,the main effect of music experience on music emotion of college students is not significant.In Experiment 2,single factor is used in the experimental design.Independent variable is imaginary type.The dependent variable is the subject’s recognition and experience of music emotion.Accuracy and intensity are dependent variables.On the basis of Experiment 1,this paper continues to explore the influence of imagination with or without titles on college students,as well as the relationship between creative personality and individual music emotion.The instrument of creative personality measurement is Williams’ creative tendency scale,which has four dimensions: curiosity,challenge,adventure and imagination.There are 50 questions in this scale.Scores can be obtained for each of the previous four tests,and the original total score is added.The results show that the imagination guided by title has a significant impact on individual music emotion recognition and experience accuracy.But it has no advantage in the intensity of music emotion recognition and experience.There is no significant correlation and low correlation coefficient between these five factors,including creativity,adventure,curiosity,imagination and challenge and music emotion.The conclusions of this study are as follows:1.In the process of emotion induction,the combination of music and imagination is more effective than music induction alone.In the research on emotion induction,stable and effective emotion is induced by combination elicitation,which has been ensured that the experiment can proceed smoothly.2.Imagination is an important condition that affects individual music emotion recognition and experience.Under imaginary conditions,the accuracy and intensity of individual’s music emotion recognition and experience is more significant.It is obvious that the titled imagination has a significant impact on individual music emotion recognition and experience accuracy.However,there is no advantage in the intensity of music emotion recognition and experience.3.The impact of musical experience and creative personality on college students ’musical mood is not clear.Although college students with music experience have more advantages in the intensity of music emotional experience,this advantage is not outstanding.The correlation coefficient between creativity,adventure,curiosity,imagination and challenge in creative personality and music emotion is very low.Through the control of these two individual factors,it is found that the recognition and experience of emotions by college students in music appreciation does not depend on music experience and creative personality.
