A fond dream as the folktale is widely spread. From Tang Dynasty to now, this has been inheritance and development. In the late Ming dynasty, the opera master Zang Maoshun's " A Dream Under the Southern Bough " came from the third dream in Four New Words of Yu Ming, which was the revised version from Tang Xianzu's Four New Words of Yu Ming Tang. From the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, although it is a revised edition,it is rich in content, exquisitely engraved, with a total of 35 parts for each fold of figures. It was loved by the audience. The picture and the text are separated, and the picture is placed in front of the book.Images vividly reproduce the artistic images, story plots and scenes in the text, which in turn enhances the integrity of the narrative, based on the book of A Dream Under the Southern Bough published by Wuqun bookstore at the end of Ming Dynasty. On the basis of image narration, the author of this paper analyzed the narrative prototype formed by the strict internal logic in the images of A Dream Under the Southern Bough,as well as the relationship between picture and text which is also imitated by both of them.Although the picture and the text are different forms of art media, they overlap in their ideological activities. The image prototype with narrative can provide reference for the practice of narrative art creation in the future and theoretical support for the study of Chinese cultural inheritance. And it can provide certain theoretical basis on the concept of Chinese opera and the cultural transmission of Yuan opera.Chapter 1 of this article summarized the story and version of A Dream Under the Southern Bough. This article teased the origin and description of the A Dream Under the Southern Bough and made an introduction of the image plate, social and cultural background.Chapter 2 made an image analysis of the characters and scenes of the A Dream Under the Southern Bough. What's more, chapter 2 discussed the factor which is symbol and the narrative form of the characters and scenes. In the chapter 3,the author discussed the relationship between text and image from the perspective of image narration.Chapter 4 analyzed the differences, other related etiquette and spatial patternof image narration in daily life between A Dream Under the Southern Bough and Yumingtang Four New Words. The conclusion of the article concluded all chapters of the article and further pointed out the value and status of the A Dream Under the Southern Bough in Chinese ancient legends.
