Irony is a sign of cultural maturity,indicating that China has entered a more ideal cultural state.As a special way of expression,it has certain universality in Chinese contemporary art.Since the 1990 s,Chinese contemporary art is undergoing a more ancient turn.Irony has become the main tone of contemporary culture,and some contemporary paintings have the artistic characteristics of "irony"."Irony,as a discourse practice,contains the sharp edge of criticism and the impulse of experience,aiming to create a new meaning through ups and downs and differences," haqin said.In order to highlight the distinctive features of the new era,the artists in this period sought to transcend the tradition,ingeniously break through the Convention,move towards a new way of expression,and seek a new way of development of painting itself in criticism.Painting deviated from the theme of grand narrative in the past period,the sense of sublimity disappeared,and gradually gave way to skepticism,more cynical self questioning and ironic reverse thinking.Based on the theory of symbol system,narrative type and symbol rhetoric of irony,this paper makes a deep analysis of some contemporary painting works since the modern art exhibition(1989)in China Find out its irony characteristics,focus on the contemporary painting of irony,and seek the reasons for the universality of this phenomenon in Chinese contemporary art.So as to provide a theoretical basis for understanding the creation mechanism of contemporary Chinese painting,and more clearly grasp the principle of the development of contemporary painting.
