As one of the cohesive means,the main function of conjunctions is to connect different components in a discourse,which plays a role of coherence and reflects the logical and semantic relationship between contexts.In the present teaching practicing of English writing,because the teachers mainly focus on the explanation of language knowledge,discourse coherence doesn't gain much attention,especially the attention to the use of conjunctions,which leads to the lack of reasonable and accurate use of conjunctions in writing.In view of this,some scholars have carried out some researches,but research subjects are mainly college students,and there are few researches on the use of conjunctions in senior high school students' English writing teaching.Especially in recent years,the new question type of English continuation writing comes into being,which has a higher requirement for the use of conjunctions,but the related research is insufficient.In this study,text analysis method and questionnaire survey method are used as research methods to analyze the use of conjunctions in senior high school students' English continuation writing.Research participants are 130 second graders of a senior high school in Yantai.The thesis focuses on the following four issues: 1)Students' attitudes and understanding about conjunctions;2)The types and frequency of conjunctions used in senior high school students' continuation writing;3)The differences in use of conjunctions between the high-score group and the low-score group;(4)The common errors in the use of conjunctions in English continuation writing and the possible reasons.The main findings of this study are as follows:(1)Most students think that conjunctions are necessary and important for English writing,and can master the basic conjunctions,but conjunctions are not fully used in the real writing situation.(2)According to the frequency of use,the order from high to low is additive,temporal,adversative,and causal.From the used frequency,130 students' English continuation writing used a total of 945 conjunctions,involving a total of 45 conjunctions.(3)There are differences in the use frequency of conjunctions,the types of used conjunctions,and the variety of types of conjunctions in the high-score group and the low-score group.In all three aspects,the high-level group packets are higher than the low-score group.(4)The types of errors are mainly concentrated in three aspects: overuse of conjunctions,misuse of conjunctions,and lack of conjunctions.The reason is that the subtle influence of mother tongue thinking affects English writing.Students' lack of corresponding writing training also makes students less sensitive to the use of conjunctions.At the same time,the teachers' orientation also has a certain impact.The results of this study have some implications for the application of conjunctions and English continuation writing,which can increase the understanding of teachers and students on English continuation writing.In addition,there are also some deficiencies in this research,and the author also put forward prospects for subsequent research in view of these factors.
