Four decades of commercial production of unconventional shale gas resources in the United States have not only helped the country become energy independent,it has also changed the overall landscape of energy supply centered on the Middle East.China has abundant and concentrated shale oil and gas reserves, but the production technology is still developing.Understanding the technical theories and regulations of other countries will greatly promote the development of shale oil and gas industry in China. Therefore, the text translation of new clean energy has value in guiding for the development of China's oil and gas industry.Based on the first and tenth chapters of translation material SHALE OIL AND GAS HANDBOOK:Theory,Technologies, and Challenges published in 2017.Combining text classification theory of Newmark and text functional classification theory of Reiss to determine the translation standard, this paper gives examples of different definitions of parallel text from the perspective of various disciplines by scholars at home and abroad, and analyzes the sources and characteristics of parallel text.By giving examples of words and sentences in translation materials, the author elaborates on how parallel texts guide the translation of terms, definitions and operational methods in sci-tech English texts. The methods of using parallel text discussed in this report are expected to provide reference for scholars studying sci-tech English translation.
