A Report On E-C Translation Of Sci-Tech Text

The fast development of science and technology and the continual evolution of globalization have placed the sci-tech translation in a more important position on the international communication stage.Scholars at home and abroad have done research on the field.The author,however,finds out that few scholars deeply study sci-tech translation from a subdivision aspect such as installation instructions(specifications).Given that,this report takes the author's translation tasks Assembly Sequences and First Start-Up Instructions for the Electric Arc Furnace,Assembly Sequences and First Start-Up Instructions for the Fumes Treatment Plant,as a case to be studied.It elaborates the measures the author takes to analyze features of the source texts and solve the problems came across in the translation with the guidance of Skopos theory.The source texts are subordinate to sci-tech texts and are not only objective,correct and logical,but also informative and targeted.The author first analyzes features of the source texts at lexical,syntactical and textual level.Then in accordance with the previous research and under the guidance of the three rules(Skopos rule,Coherence rule and Fidelity rule)of Skopos theory,the authors preliminarily summarizes four principles “Correctness,Conciseness,Coherence and Comprehension” and some techniques like “Combination,Syntactic Linearity,Division,and Inverted-Order Translation” to solve the difficulties in translating the source text from English to Chinese.Besides,it is a must for the author to repeatedly consult with dictionaries,professional books and experts so as to make sure that the source texts can be successfully translated into target texts.From the translation practice,the author also hopes that the study can provide reference and inspiration for translators dedicating themselves in this filed and can contribute a little to the development of the sci-tech translation.
