This translation report is based on Chapter 1,2,3 and 5 of IoT Systems Architectures,Algorithms,Methodologies,an informative book published by Springer in 2018.The selected contents detail the basic concepts,devices and system architectures of Internet of things(IoT)and the cutting-edge technologies of the Industrial Internet of things(IIoT),which are of high enlightening significance to the development of IoT and IIoT in China.As a scientific report,the source text has some typical features: at the lexical level,terms,abbreviations and nominal structures are commonly used;at the syntactical level,passive sentences as well as long and complex sentences are widely used;and at the textual level,simple present tense and third-person perspective are prominent.In addition,rhetorical devices like metaphor and personification are virtually nonexistent,and thus strong logicality between sentences can be clearly found.Finally,at the technical level,features like the frequent use of formulas,measurement units and diagrams,as well as standards and protocols are found.In light of Vermeer's Skopos theory,this translation applies a variety of translation techniques to deal with the difficulty caused by the linguistic level to accurately and coherently convey the information and better serve target readers.For instance,the translation technique of amplification is applied to avoid ambiguity of the sentence meaning;omission is employed to make the translation easy to understand;zero translation is adopted to safeguard the validity of translatability and technicality of the source text;techniques like literal translation and division are used to ensure that the translation suits the target reader's reading habits.Typical examples were analyzed in the translation project,and it has been found that the related translation strategies and techniques under the guidance of Skopos theory are effective and practical in EST translation.
