Writing is a commonly used type of test for all levels of examinations.In recent years,the English writing of the Junior School English Academic Graduation Test(JSEAGT)is in the form of writing after reading,that is,students are required to write after reading a certain discourse in a certain topic.After reading,the topic is formed,and writing according to the topic meets the requirements of the comprehensive language application ability of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011).Based on the comprehensive language application ability and English core competency,this study explores the washback of the cultivation of English core competency from the perspective of English writing test topics after reading in JSEAGT.This study answers the following questions: 1.Do the English writing after reading topics have washback on cultivating students' English core competency? 2.What are the backwash effects of English writing after reading topics on cultivating students' English core competency? 3.How can we promote positive washback and inhibit negative washback in daily teaching and learning? The thesis consists of six chapters,and the research thoughts are embodied in research background,research significance and research questions;literature review(writing,writing ability,writing subject,English core competency,washback);theoretical basis;research design,including research purposes,subjects,instruments and procedures;analysis and discussion;conclusion,including major findings,limitations,suggestions and further research directions.In this study,280 students and 20 teachers Foshan No.3 Middle School were selected as the survey subjects.The questionnaires,classroom observations and interviews were collected for the study.After the statistics were compiled,the data was obtained using SPSS22.0.The data is analyzed and the results are as follows:1.The Guangdong JSEAGT English writing test topics are consistent with the abilities' requirements in Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education.2.Teachers and students believe that the topics of texts in junior middle school textbooks and the topics of English writing in JSEAGT have positive washback on thecultivation of core competency of junior middle school students.3.The positive washback is reflected in the following aspects: the ability to read and write and the ability to choose sentences after reading;the formation of topics after reading can train students' abilities of abstraction,generalization and thinking;cultivate a specific cultural outlook by reading different topics;writing after reading can cultivate the ability of imitation after learning the discourse,embodied in the linguistic features.
