Translation Study Of The Rhetoric Malapropism In A Dream Of Red Mansions

Malapropism is a kind of active figure of speech constructed by using the internal relations among glyph,pronunciation and semantics,which could express the characteristics and personalities of the characters vividly,and could also demonstrate the sense of humor and satire.Therefore,the experience the realistic effect of the literary works could be enhanced by the malapropism,which promote its widely application in domestic and abroad literatures.As a representative,different figures of speech are perfectly combined in The Dream of Red Mansion to enhance the enjoyment in aesthetics.21 malapropisms,including glyph,pronunciation and semantics,have been found in the first 80 chapters of the Dream of the Red Chamber,which reflect the full characters,enhance the charm and appeal,and improve the literary value.Moreover,comparing the four versions by three translators and two languages,it is clear that translation methods have been used in different translations,while some commonalities has also been found.However,semantics malapropisms have been widely treated by paraphrasing to express the circumstances in the original work.Based on the statistical analysis,more combination method of transliteration and annotation was used in the Russian versions,while more paraphrasing was adopted in the English versions.Meanwhile,added and modified translations were not found in Russian versions,and higher diversity of translation methods was detected in English versions.The translation is also the collision between the translator's and the author's thoughts,and the translator shows the spiritual connotation of each era in front of the readers by their work.Moreover,the translation purpose and cultural differences of the translators also gave them different translation angles.It should be emphasized that the linguistic charm and spiritual style of The Dream of Red Mansion have been expressed in great extent by the unremitting efforts of three translators of different nationalities,which made outstanding contribution to the world communication of Chinese classical literature.
