The development of Chinese and Western modern abstract painting presents two different styles.Chinese-style abstraction is developed based on traditional imagery paintings. It has a strong sense of freehand and shows an approximate or semi-abstract state.Abstraction evolved from the concrete, with a sense of mathematics and geometry, expressed in the form of cold and hot abstraction.Regarding the study of the similarity and difference between Chinese and Western abstract paintings, the academic community has been arguing and holding their own opinions, mainly from the cultural system, art theory, artistic spirit, philosophical thinking, etc. The research method starts the actualization argument.Based on this,it is recommended to adopt the method of artistic empirical research on the Chinese and Western modern abstract paintings.First of all, accurately define the Chinese and Western modern abstract painting and Chinese traditional image painting, combing its academic origin, historical context, development and evolution, and put forward the research hypothesis for the following empirical research. Then,on the basis of theoretical combing, design implicit association test, eye movement test,five-point scale test to carry out empirical research to verify the above point of view. Finally, statistical analysis and comprehensive discussion of the empirical data, summing up the personal inspiration and understanding of abstract paintings, drawn Research conclusions and conduct artistic creation. The study initially reached the following conclusions: first,on the implicit level, the audience has different cognitive impressions of Chinese and Western modern abstract paintings, they believe that Chinese modern abstract paintings contain traditional Chinese painting ideas, although the development of Chinese modern abstract paintings is influenced by Western abstract paintings,it is essentially it also permeates the Chinese traditional aesthetic genes.Second, the traditional way of thinking of the Chinese aesthetic audience is more characteristic of image thinking.Influenced by Confucianism and traditional aesthetic culture, the semi-abstract or image graphics of Chinese style are more obvious, and to large areas of color blocks and Color-rich areas will produce longer gaze time, and the form of the picture and the shape of the color block will affect the audience's visual movement track.Third, under the same presentation mode and presentation environment, the difference between the complexity and internal accessibility of modern abstract paintings in China and the West is not obvious.Fourth, the image elements in Chinese traditional imagery painting are abstract in the modern sense, but Chinese traditional imagery painting emphasizes more on the abstraction of sensibility, which is unified with sensibility and abstraction, while modern western abstract painting focuses on science and logic, perception and abstraction are not unified.
