| As a carrier of culture,food has been an important subject of artistic expression since ancient times.From the religious symbols of sin and spirit,the testimony of royal power and extravagance,The reflection of the happy life of the people at the bottom,the pursuit of life style by the bourgeoisie,the survival strategies of different social classes,the construction of female identity...As human instinct "eating and drinking",in different contexts,the artist’s interpretation also shows a variety of different meanings.This paper compares the changes in the meaning of dietary behavior in images of art history in different periods through formal analysis theory and iconology,exploring the change of social concepts behind it and its economic and cultural causes.This article focuses on the change of the overall social value orientation after entering the consumer society under the influence of modern ideological trends and its projection in art works.With the desire for capital appreciation,under the conspiracy of the government,various interest groups and the mass media,timely and happy consumption ethics,endlessly iterative consumption symbols,and overwhelming mass culture domesticate people into active consumers.The world of human live is segmented into two parts: work and consumption.At the same time,with the continuous improvement of the consumption system,aesthetics and art fell from the shrine and began to be included in the economic system of the consumer society as a tool to cultivate people’s desire for consumption.The principal function of beauty is no longer to get people out of daily vulgarities,to talk to deities and the soul,but to replace it with pure sensory enjoyment.Perceptual liberation,starting from the struggle with reason,gradually reduced to the endless exile of desire.The melt of faith and reason has taken away all the profoundness and meaning,and the pain of losing the ideal homeland and spiritual world can only be filled with ubiquitous material,and then falling into a vicious circle of alienated consumption.This status quo is reflected in works of art,in which chaos,disorderly and uncontrolledeating and consumption behaviors are intertwined and repeatedly expressed as a sign of"greed“.This kind of situation is expressed by the sexual desire in "licking and rubbing",the destructive desire in "eat the city",the possessive desire in "food",the desire to become beautiful in "must be beauty"..Through the dissimilated eating behavior in the works of art,artists complete the query and criticism on the expansion of material desire,the supremacy of entertainment,the generalization of aesthetics and other issues in the contemporary society.The research on art works in this paper mainly achieved the following results:1.Sort out the representative paintings on the subject of diet since the 15 th century in the West,and make a comparative study of the changes in artistic and social concepts.2.Study the social and economic foundation and cultural foundation of the theme of greed,that is,"consumer economy" and "aestheticism",and explore the relationship between art and culture,economy,and politics.3.Case study of contemporary visual art works on the theme of eating behaviors,analysis of commonality and personality,and their value in contemporary visual culture. |
