This thesis mainly explores the application method of water-based materials,as the main material,in comprehensive material paintings.It mainly involves the water-based materials which are mainly classified into traditional Chinese ink and watercolor.The author has carried out the analysis by combining the manifestation of comprehensive paintings applied.Under the background of the rapid development of science and technology in the 21 st century,the homogenized and preconceived concepts of some artistic expressions have already not fitted the current situation of the artistic practice.Therefore,the comprehensive painting categories and materials become an inevitable topic.There is no doubt that some innovations are needed.The innovation can be most directly indicated in painting categories or even the interdisciplinarity,which is mainly presented through the vague boundary of painting categories.The integration between traditional Chinese ink paintings and watercolor paintings is one of the expressions.The thesis has illustrated the use of language and morphological characteristics of watercolor paintings and traditional Chinese ink paintings,described the combination and application of water-based materials and comprehensive paintings in the creation and combined the author's creative practice for the purpose of illustrating a localized state of the water-mediated comprehensive material paintings and describing its certain unique artistic language.The thesis has interpreted the representative works of artists,such as Hu Wei,Marlene Dumas and Andrew Wyeth,whose works are water-mediated.The author has also researched their artistic ideas.At the same time,the thesis has tried to analyze and review the application of the water-based materials in the comprehensive paintings by combining author's creative practice.There are some similarities between the traditional Chinese ink and watercolor in aspects such as material characteristics and painting methods.The communication between western and Chinese culture has accelerated their integration under the globalization background.It is inevitable that the traditional Chinese ink integrates with the watercolor.It is common to interpret,restructure and combine the water-based materials including conscious creation cross the boundaries in modern comprehensive material paintings.Therefore,the research on the application of the water-based materials in the comprehensive paintings is helpful to interpret the integration between Chinese native arts and western arts as well as the localization of western arts in China.
