The first time I went to Ying Jing was in the summer vacation of 2017 before entering graduate school when my tutor took 12 students from Si Chuan academy of fine arts there to investigate and research. An exhibition named Silver July was planned for this on-site design workshop in Ying Jing after starting the classes. One of the most controversial topics in the seminar was that Ying Jing sand ware should be renamed, because "black sand" does not accurately express the uniqueness of Ying Jing sand ware and should be changed to "silver sand".As is known to all,Ying Jing sand ware was officially included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list by the state council in 2008.This kind of sand ware also enjoys the reputation of "Yi Xingpurple sand is famous in the east, but Ying Jing black sand is famous in the west".Therefore, this research's starting point was renaming the sand ware from “Ying Jing black sand ware” to “Ying Jing silver sand ware”.During this month-long learning process, the author accidentally found that there were very few "colorful silver" on the surface of the sand ware.Such“colorful silver” texture which combines white, yellow, blue, purple and black, was called peacock blue by local potters. This discovery aroused the author's great interest, and encouraged him to envisage the possibility of "five-color silver sand".In July 2018,the author went to Ying Jing for the fourth time and began a two-year on-site design practice in Ying Jing. The first step of the practice is to send the mud sample of the sand ware to China railway eryuan engineering group co.Ltd.For elemental analysis.A month later, the element measurement and analysis table was obtained and showed that Ying Jing sand material contained heavy iron compounds and elemental iron. After inquiring the information of metalworking,it could be known that the silver of Ying Jingsand ware and the formation of "peacock blue" were closely related to the iron content in the mud.Based On this, the five-color silver sand experiment was started for one and a half years.Firstly, make clear "peacock blue" generation principle;secondly, make experiments how to present silver, yellow silver, blue silver, purple silver and black silver separately, namely "five-color silver sand".After a year and a half of experiments, local peacock blue could be achieved, but monochromatic yellow silver, blue silver, purple silver and black silver could not be controlled at will. The whole firing process needs a kiln to ensure that the sand does not crack, and to keep the temperature balance, fast heating.Due to the economic limitations during the study, such a corresponding equipment was impractical,so the author would continue this experiment in the future work. The initial idea of the graduation creation was to convert the experimental results of“five-color silver sand” into five series including “silver, yellow silver, blue silver, purple silver and black gold”.As the experiment has not been completed, the project of graduation creation is now modified as "up and down of the silver series".Through the tension and pressure of expression form, the work shows the four ways to explore the "Tao",and also expresses the determination of the author never to give up in the face of difficulties. The exploration of material technology of “five-color silver sand” is the innovation and difficulty of this paper,it's hard to doit in a short time bysomeone alone. After graduation, the author intends to set up a studio in Ying Jing with the help of local manpower and material resources, and continue the experiment of “five color silver sand” with like-minded friends, expanding the future of Ying Jing sand ware.
