The Qin Bamboo Slips Collected by Yuelu Academy(also known as the Yuelu Qin Slips),a batch of bamboo slips, were purchased for salvage from Hong Kong in December 2007 by Yuelu Academy of Hunan University. With a total of 2100 pieces, the Yuelu Qin Slips mainly includes the following categories:Zhiri(??);Weili Zhiguan Ji Qianshou(???????);Zhanmeng Shu(???);Shu(?);Weiyudeng Zhuang Sizhong(??????);Qin Lvling(???).According to the book Zhiri(??),the inscriptions on these bamboo slips were written no later than the thirty-five-year of Emperor Qin Shihuang(212 BC),which is believed the most critical period in the evolvement of Chinese characters.Inheriting the seal script and initiating the official script, the inscriptions reveal the transition between the ancient writing and the modern writing, which becomes a very important material for studying"LiBian"(??).By analyzing the glyph of the inscriptions on the Yuelu Qin Slips(1)to(5),the thesis illustrates the features of characters form in Qin dynasty and gives insight on distinguishing difficult characteristics on Qin Bamboo slips. The thesis is organized by six chapters as follows. The first chapter is the introduction. This chapter mai nly defines the object and the range of the research, summarizes the present situation of the research on the characters written on bamboo slips of the Qin Dynasty, emphatically introduces the research on the characters of Yuelu Slips, and illuminates the significance of the research. The second chapter emphatically introduces the physical characteristics of the characters of Yuelu Qin Slips. To sum up,the shape of the characters is inclined and not fixed;some characters reveal the way of the seal charac ter writing and some of them reveal the official character writing way.The third chapter explores the origin of the characters from the diachronic level. The mainly part of the characters of Yuelu Qin Slips comes from the Qin seal character of the Warring States Period, and some of the characters are influenced by the bronze inscriptions in the Western Zhou Dynasty and the characters of the six Kingdoms in the Spring and Autumn Period. The fourth chapter reveals the general examples of the changes of the characters of Yuelu Slips from the synchronic and diachronic level, which includes simplicity and multiplicity, variation and assimilation. The fifth chapter is the differentiation and analysis of the characters with similar form. The thesis selects three groups of characters which are easy to be confused in Yuelu Qin Slips, which includes "Nei(?)"and"Rong(?)";"Si(?)" "He(?)"and"Li(?)";"Guai(?)"and"Shi(?)".The sixth chapter is the proofread and reinterpret of Yuelu Qin Slips. This part corrects the misinterpreted characters of "Nei(?)"and"Rong(?)";"Si(?)" "He(?)"and"Li(?)";"Guai(?)"and"Shi(?)" mentioned above, and makes a distinction among the three characters of a "Zhu(?)" radical.
