A Study On The Historical Narrative Of Ryukyu Official History Chuzan-Sefu

Chuzan-sefu is the first official history in Chinese of Ryukyu.Its content and form are influenced by the dual political status of China and Japan and the background of the increase of Ryukyu's autonomous consciousness,as well as its historical source and historians.After the invasion of Satsuma domain in 1609,Ryukyu tried it's best to develop autonomous consciousness under the supervision of Satsuma.The Chuzan-sefu is the product of this consciousness.The three main historians of Chuzan-sefu are all from Kumemura and belong to intelligentsia class.They have high Chinese cultural literacy and all deeply influenced by Confucian culture.Their life experiences and ideological conditions also make Chuzan-sefu show the tendency of Ryukyu autonomy.In content,Chuzan-sefu rationalizes the first textualized legend in Chuzan-sekan and compares it with the Ryukyu records in the Chinese official history to try to raise the time limit of Ryukyu's history.It takes the Kings of the past Zhongshan dynasties as the national symbol,shapes the Succession of Kings of Ryukyu as long-standing,independent,lineal and deeply legitimate,and constructs the early history of Ryukyu.Establish the Ryukyu-style internal tributary system.In form,Chuzan-sefu divides the whole history work into two parts to maintain the status that simultaneously politically subordinate to China and Japan as far as possible,and then to maintain the independent status of Ryukyu,and to reflect on how Ryukyu can preserve itself under the influence of the two great powers of China and Japan.The book shows strong Ryukyu autonomy consciousness and self-determination tendency.Chuzan-sefu is also an important achievement of the official history revision activities in Ryukyu from the mid-17 th century to the mid-18 th century.During this period,the official history revision of Ryukyu underwent a process from Royal genealogy to the overall national history.The brief Chuzan-sefu with its unique "meaning" function was continued in this process,and its construction of the early history of Ryukyu became a cognitive part of later generations of Ryukyu.
