Generally, museum is the place where the natural science and human cultural heritage are collected, displayed, and researched, which provides public education by organizing exhibition with classified artworks or science from different periods and areas. In 21 st century, the exhibition industry is growing rapidly in China, and the passion of cultural consumption is taking an important place in the country's revenue.Under this macroenvironment,it is necessary to improve the user experience with the study of general design methods of museum exhibition and the museum curation to the art designer and researcher. This dissertation focuses on the general design methods of museum exhibition and museum curation.First, the field research of several museums located in the major cities of China and Japan has been made. This investigation report shows each museum's typical exhibition methods and the differences between two countries' museum industry.Second, the applied theory of this study is based on Josef Müller-Brockman's Grid systems,Adrian George's The Curator's Handbook, and assisted with Donald Arthur Norman's The Design of Everyday Things. In the theory chapter, analyses and diagrams about the "Space grid systems" and other design methods are also provided. Finally,a personal design case analysis is presented to prove that "space grid systems" is valuable and referable to the museum exhibition design.Think to the future,a thought of "art for blind" is presented at the end of this dissertation, providing a concept about how to run an art exhibition for the blind. This idea includes the purpose of the exhibition and particular design methods of transmitting information to the blind with an expectation that this study could be the reference of art designers and bring up some creative thoughts.
