With the improvement of the living standards and the rapidly accelerating pace of life, fast food has been playing a more and more important role in our daily life.Such an unhealthy eating habit makes us face many health problems,in particular those related to overweight and obesity. In the meanwhile, due to reduced physical activities, obesity has become more common than ever before, especially among the children.Affected by external circumstances including the media and businesses, children like eating a lot of unhealthy food. The issues concerning with health problems caused by obesity among children should be seriously considered. This thesis is a report of the Chinese translation of two English articles of children obesity from https://www.nih.gov,the website of the US National Institutes of Health, which is dedicated to researching and publishing articles of epidemic diseases and offering advice and methods for people to keep a healthy life. The main problems in the translation include improper choice of the corresponding Chinese equivalents of the professional words and phrases, awkward translation of the common English words and phrases, and overfocus on the English syntactic structures.Specific translation strategies include standardization of the professional words and phrases with appropriate online resources, determination of the Chinese expressions of the common English words and phrases according to the target context and optimization of the sentence translation according to syntactic characteristics of Chinese and the target readers' reading expectations. In short,in order to do translation well, the translator should develop her knowledge structure, sharpen her search skills and have deeper understanding of the linguistic differences between English and Chinese. It is hoped that this report can be helpful in increasing the translator's capacities of translation.
