The translation of The English Home is intended to help the design company and its clients understand the home-furnishing trends that occur in the UK,thus providing reference for home decoration.The source text(hereinafter “ST”)mainly introduces the products and design style of British home.Three chapters of the translation are chosen as the objects of case study.To meet the needs of the market,the ST contains simple and vivid language.In this translation,target readers' acceptance of translation should be valued.According to the theory of readers' horizon of expectations,it is found that readers have pre-perceiving expectations for the works.Accordingly,the translator analyzes target readers' expectations of the translation: aesthetics,accuracy and conciseness.Then,specific translation techniques are adopted to meet the above expectations.The four-character words are applied to translate adjectives and nouns in order to meet target readers' expectation of aesthetics.Nouns and verbs are added to satisfy the readers' expectation of accuracy.Pronouns are omitted to achieve the readers' expectation of conciseness.Under guidance of readers' horizon of expectations,this report aims to summarize specific translation skills for different reading expectations,thus providing reference for future home text translation.The report briefly introduces the translation project,significance and process.Next,it analyzes the ST and readers' horizon of expectation theory.Based on this,the report also discusses the specific expectations of target readers.It uses the translation skills of four-character words,amplification and omission for case analysis.Finally,the translator summarizes the findings and shortcomings of this home magazine translation report.
