Erik Satie(1866-1925),was a French composer at the turn of the 19 th and 20 th centuries. His music creation involved piano solo, piano four-handed,piano backing, drama music, ballet music, etc.Among the above categories, piano works are the most numerous.Through analyzing these works, his creation style and techniques can be summarized? As a composer at the turn of the century,it is a problem that must be faced to choose which style of creation or innovate to make himself stand out.Satie has spent his life trying to break the rules and make changes. His style is changeable, and his creation has a great influence on contemporary and later composers.Taking Satie's piano works as the research object and the melody as the entry point,we can systematically sort out and explore the characteristics of Satie's creation by studying the material of melody mode, the characteristics of melody form and the development of melody. The thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is a brief introduction of the five stages of Satie's piano creation, and a brief review of the composer's individual life experience, style preference in different periods and the use of technology. The second chapter focuses on the use of Satie's melodic mode materials, and USES empirical research methods to summarize the composer's flexible use of traditional major and minor mode, medieval mode, mode of self-created and simultaneous double mode. Then this chapter comes to the conclusion that Satie is good at using the medieval mode, and is flexible and innovative on the basis of the original style. The third chapter studies the morphological characteristics and content expression of melody line, analyzes the common straight line and curvilinear melody form, and the special connotation expression given by the composer. And this paper put forward the concept of "surface melody".Some of Satie's early,rose-cross piano pieces,a thickened, layered melody in the high-pitched position of a column chord and played in sync with the chord, with non-harmonic functions leading.Chapter four discusses five main and commonly used methods of melody development in Satie's piano works;repetition, variation, derivation and method of building blocks etc,of which method of building blocks works are the most distinctive. The method of buildingblocks development technique can be divided into two types. The first one is the creation of the building block technique of Satie in the early stage. At this time, there were not many text hints in the works, but a large number of short pieces were piled up to achieve Satie's pursuit of minimalist music. The other is based on the development of the story described by the text, the melody of the corresponding plot is collaged one after another, the text and the melody cooperate properly,so that the work reflects the multi-dimensional artistic nature. The fifth chapter discusses the rhythm of the melody, using the time signature and bar measure as the standard, and analyzing the rhythm in the order of five creative stages.
