Vocabulary is one of the three key elements of a language and the basis for learning it well.Learners' mastery of vocabulary directly affects the development of their listening,speaking,reading and writing skills and the improvement of their language literacy.For Chinese high school English learners,vocabulary acquisition still puzzles most of them.They try many ways to memorize words,but the effect is relatively depressing.In recent years,with the development of mobile communication technology and the increasing popularity of mobile terminal devices such as smart phones,a large number of English learning apps have sprung up.Vocabulary app is a kind of application program which has vivid and abundant content and can be used to memorize words at any time and anywhere.Therefore,more and more English learners use them to learn vocabulary.Therefore,based on the specific theories of mobile learning and vocabulary learning,this paper adopts the research method of combining quantitative and qualitative methods,and mainly discusses the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of English vocabulary learning for senior high school students?(2)Can the use of English vocabulary apps in vocabulary learning promote students' vocabulary learning?(3)What is the attitude of the students in EC toward vocabulary apps applied to English vocabulary learning?In an effort to explore the above three questions,the author chooses two parallel classes(111 people in total)in Wuhai No.1 middle school as EC and CC for the experiment lasting 13 weeks,in which the EC use BCZ App for vocabulary learning;the CC use the traditional method.Questionnaire,experiment and interview are used to collect data and SPSS 25.0 is used to analyze data.According to the analysis of data,results of interview,some major findings are concluded:(1)Most students have realized the importance of vocabulary to English learning but found it difficult for them to improve the performance of vocabulary learning.Many of them tried various kinds of vocabulary apps,among whom more than half thinks it helpful to them while the minority hold the opposite view.(2)Compared with the CC,the total score of EC is much higher,especially in word dictation and English-Chinese translation,so vocabulary app can promote students' vocabulary learning.(3)The students in the EC hold a positive attitude towards the application of mobile learning apps in their vocabulary learning,and most of the students think that the vocabulary apps can help them learn words better.From the above results,some implications and suggestions for teachers and students are concluded.Firstly,English teachers should reflect on the value and innovation of mobile learning actively,and learn from the various learning models of vocabulary apps to inspire students' vocabulary learning motivation and help them learn vocabulary effectively.Besides,English teachers should play five roles in instructing students to learn vocabulary with smart phones--instructor,observer,supervisor,companion and researcher.On the other hand,students should use the fragmented time to study vocabulary,and combine the vocabulary apps with reading materials reasonably to study effectively.
