With the world globalization developing,the international status of English is increasing gradually and English plays an important role in building a communication bridge for other countries.Reading ability is one of the basic language skills required by English curriculum standards,and reading makes a difference when learning a foreign language.Although the state attaches great importance to rural education,the great gap between urban and rural education still exists,especially English education.And there is a phenomenon that the English level in rural senior high school is quite low and many students are not interested in English learning.This paper aims at exploring the effects of Reading Circle model on the English reading interest and reading comprehension in rural senior high schools.The reading comprehension of students is analyzed from the aspect of the correct rate of answering the relevant questions in the reading materials.The author has made a four-month action research in Class 3,Senior 2 in Guanling Autonomous County Comprehensive High School(located in Anshun,Guizhou Province)and there are 50 students in this class.Reading Circle Model was applied into the daily English reading lessons in this class.The English reading ability in this school is quite low because the English average score in this school is about 40 in each test(the full score is 120).And many students have already given up studying English.Therefore,the author only used four roles in the reading lessons according to the real English situation in this class: a discussion leader,a word master,a summarizer and a sentence person.This research mainly discusses two research questions:1.What influences does Reading Circle Model have on the English reading interest of rural senior high school students?2.What are the Reading Circle Model’s effects on rural high school students’ reading comprehension? And the author analyzed the reading comprehension from the aspect of the correct rate of answering related questions in the reading materials?In the study,the author mainly adopted questionnaires,interviews,observation and tests to collect data.She studied the effects of reading circle model on the English reading interest of rural senior high school students through questionnaires,interviews and observations;she also conducted three tests and a four-month action research to explore the effects of Reading Circle Model on the reading comprehension in rural high schools.After analyzing these data in the action research,the author had following findings:1)Reading Circle Model can stimulate the English reading interest of rural senior high school students.2)Reading Circle Model has positive effects on the English reading comprehension of rural high school students.This research offered a new teaching model for English teachers and broadened the thoughts of English reading teaching in rural high schools.And it also brought advice and inspiration for those teachers who had no much experience of English reading teaching.
