Franz Lehár(1870-1948)is an Austro-Hungarian composer,and important figure in the history of New Viennese operetta.He broke the stagnant situation of John Strauss,and his innovative compositional ideas had a great influence on the development of New Viennese operetta.His famous works are The Merry Widow(Die lustige Witwe);The Land of Smiles(Das Land des L?chelns)and so on.This paper focuses on the aria Meine Lippen,sie küssen so hei? in Franz Lehar's opera Giuditta to discuss how to analyze the music and sing.The primary purpose of this paper is to analyze the background of composing;composer's compositional style,music structure,different singing versions,and other aspects of the Aria and combine the author's personal singing experience.Thus,to have a more comprehensive analysis of this work,to offer to other singers who are trying to work on this work as a reference.This paper uses literature analysis,data collection,comparative analysis,experience summary,and other methods,to provide a more robust thesis.This paper includes four chapters: The first chapter is the analysis of Franz Lehar's compositional style and the background of the Giuditta;The second chapter starts with analyzing the character of the protagonist Giuditta and the overall singing emotion of the Aria,in order to have a whole understanding of the character;The third chapter focus on the music structure and detailed music language,and discusses how it related to the singing skills;The last chapter is comparing different singing versions of Elizabeth Schwarzkopf,Anna Netrebko,and Diana Damrau,then finally according to personal performance experience to make a summary and reflection of how to recreation on the stage.This paper illustrates that music and singing are related closely by focusing on their subtle connection.It also shows that as a singer,when he or she starts to learn a piece,the first thing they need to do is explore the background of the piece and composers as much as they can,they also should have enough knowledge of music theory to support them to sing,At last,he or she needs to take advantage on other professional singers' experience,and blend with their personal characteristics,to build a mature role on the stage.
