China University of Petroleum(East China)is a university with a strong focus on engineering,petroleum and petrochemical characteristics,and multidisciplinary development.Music students in there have strong professional abilities,active thinking,and distinct personality,but face difficulties in English learning.In this study,Gao Yihong's “Study on College Students' English Learning Motivation Questionnaire”,Yang Tao's “College English Learning Burnout Scale” and Huang Xiting's “Learning Motivation Questionnaire” were used as survey tools to study English learning motivation of 122 students from the freshman to senior year of music department.The findings of the study are as follows: 1.The motivation of English learning of them is medium;The rankings of the seven types of motivation in English learning from high to low are: “personal development”,“information media”,“social responsibility”,“learning achievement”,“intrinsic interest” and “learning situation”,“go abroad”.2.There is a common problem of English learning burnout among them.3.The higher the motivation for learning,the higher the interest and achievement in English learning.4.The stronger the “internal interest”,“personal development” and “information media” motives of English learning,the lower the English learning burnout level;The higher the “social responsibility” motive,the less the indifference to English and the decrease in English learning self-efficacy;5.There are significant differences in the English learning motivations of them mainly in terms of grade,gender,place of origin,class committee,and score of college entrance examination.Based on the analysis results of the questionnaire data,this article puts forward three strategies from the perspectives of schools,teachers and students to further stimulate the motivation of music students in English learning.1.Schools: When setting up an English course,take into account the characteristics of the music major,making the course more personalized;starting from the student's foundation,reforms the currently used evaluation methods;2.teachers: selecting suitable teaching materials and arranging the teaching content reasonably;training learning strategies to improve student learning efficiency;Establish some typical students to drive other students;creating a relaxed atmosphere in the classroom to protect students' interest in English learning;3.students themselves: clarifying the meaning of learning and establishing learning values;learning to correct attributions and enhancing self-efficacy;setting goals appropriately and cultivating motivation for achievement;Learn to study independently,and exercise the will to learn.
