Arundhati Roy is a famous contemporary Indian authoress and social activist. The God of Small Things is her currently most influential literary work."Transgression" is not only the most important motif in her novel, but also one of the most controversial topics in scholars' research. What is " Transgression " ? Transgression refers to the violation of existing rules and conventions, but also the transgressing of borders and boundaries. The transgressive writing expresses that the destruction of inherent order, especially the doubts and challenges to the unreasonable social structure model. In the past, scholars' research on the transgression in The God of Small Things mainly focused on the transgressive behavior of marginal individuals, while ignoring the aesthetic significance of transboundary on the narrative level, and did not elaborate on the identity issues embedded in transgressive writing. Therefore, this thesis takes "transgression" as the starting point, and explores the marginal others around the two keywords of "border" and " transgression ".It queries how marginal others challenge the dualistic structure and pursue the mobility of identity through transgressive action under the pressure of the power boundary. This article will focus on the actions of vulnerable groups in the novel to cross the power boundary, and explore the role and significance of transgressive writing for others to reconstruct their identities. The body of this article is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses the concrete representation of identity in transgressive writing. It mainly analyzes how the transgression represented by Ammu,Velutha,Estha and Rahel among the marginal other surpassed the patriarchal system, caste system, and the boundaries delineated by colonial consciousness. The second chapter focuses on the narrative art that symbolizes the transcendence of the boundary, and discusses the narrative skills of transgressive narrative, such as space narrative, time strategy, and language experiment, with the choice of the identity of the transboundary. It interprets the transgressive spirit of the marginal from the perspective of narrative aesthetics. The third chapter is to reflect on the problem of identity in transgressive writing.First of all, this article intends to explore the cultural roots of the transgression of other people in the context of Indian culture, poisoning Roy's transgressive writing in the historical context of Indian literature. To show Roy's own unique thinking on "Transgression".Second,It excavates the meaning of the transgressive writing for the marginal other. That is,the path of reconstructing identities is to generate "Small Things ".Based on the background of the present social reality in India, this article examines the two topics—transgressive writing and identity in The God of Small Things—in the perspective of ideological theory and related cultural theory. It specific analyzes the significance and deep-seated cultural causes of transgression of marginal others.Roy's transgression resists the oppression of power boundaries and provides a possibility for the marginal others to rebuild their identities. Therefore, this article hopes to reveal Roy's own thinking about the transgressive problems existing in contemporary Indian society through the research on the theme of "transgression" and identity issues, and to reflect on the survival dilemma of the people of the third world and the spirit of transgressive resistance.
