Freehand brushwork, also known as ink figure painting, flourished in the song dynasty, after several generations of masters of the language of ink and brush unremitting exploration, formed a special ink program.Since the 20 th century, the figure painting has changed greatly compared with the traditional figure painting. The modern art teaching method dominated by sketch modeling, combined with the brushwork and ink techniques of traditional Chinese painting, greatly enhanced the brushwork program and semantics of freehand brushwork.Freehand brushwork figure painting opens a new sky in the expression form of traditional figure painting, which makes the vast world of Chinese painting more colorful, and also brings a unique artistic standard and aesthetic taste. In recent decades, many scholars have studied freehand brushwork, concerning the language, form and technique of freehand brushwork...Various factions and opinions vary.Through the study of freehand brushwork figure painting, this paper clarifies the development context of freehand brushwork figure painting, summarizes the similarities and differences of freehand brushwork figure painting's artistic expression forms in each period, and lists the representative masters and works to understand the diversity of brushwork and ink language in freehand brushwork figure painting. In combination with my own exploration and attempt of the brush and ink language in the creation of figure painting,I am looking for a certain point of convergence between the traditional and contemporary context,so as to guide the author's artistic creation, and conduct a profound integration of my own experience in the practice of ink and wash creation,as well as the understanding and reflection of the deficiencies.
