A Report On The Translation Of Special Conditions Of Contract In Construction Bidding Documents Of China Power Investment Corporation Investing Xiexin Binhai Power Generation Project

As bidding projects are frequently carried out in various countries in the world,the translation of bidding documents becomes an indispensable part for transnational corporations to understand the content of projects and participate in bidding activities of other countries.Furthermore,English translation for bidding documents will boost China?s enterprises to attract foreign investment and better serve the construction of socialist modernization.This report takes the Special Conditions of Contract(hereinafter abbreviated as “SCC”)in Construction Bidding Documents of China Power Investment Corporation Investing Xiexin Binhai Power Generation Project(hereinafter referred to as “Construction Bidding Documents”)compiled by China Power Investment Corporation in 2013 as the object of study,combines Google Translate to conduct post-editing work on the translation,and discusses the difficulties in the process of post-editing and the feasibility and acceptability of applying machine translation software to translate bidding documents.On the basis of translation processed by Google Translate,the translator corrects the vocabulary and phrases in the sentences and adjusts the logic and expression of the whole sentences to achieve an accurate and faithful version,so as to meet the writing criterion and requirements of international bidding documents.Through this translation practice,the translator finds that Google Translate can well handle the general contract content of the bidding documents,and it has a relatively high adoption rate.However,due to the deficiencies of machine translation software,it is still necessary for the translator to modify some details in the translation,among which the phrases,sentence expressions and logical order are the core parts which require a large number of the workload of post-editing.The translator adopts addition,omission and combination to deal with those translation problems and makes the translation text of Google Translate reach the related standards and requirements.In addition,this translation practice adopts Google Translate to process source text and combines machine translation with post-editing to study its feasibility,which can provide a reference for future research on the translation quality of bidding documents processed by machine translation software.
