With the continuous development of the relationship between China and North American countries,the number of people learning Chinese in North America is increasing,with a great demand for Chinese textbooks.This paper,taking North America's regional textbook-Chinese Teaching Toolbox as the research object,analyses and summarizes the Compiling Characteristics of the textbook from the aspects of new words,texts,grammar,culture and practice setting.The author makes a comparison between New Practical Chinese Reader,the domestic general of Chinese textbook,through the aspects of overall arrangement,text arrangement and new words arrangement,aiming at to provide a reference for the compilation of regional teaching textbooks.The paper consists of five parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the research object,research status,research significance and methods of the paper.This paper summarizes and makes a comment on the research of general textbooks,national textbooks,regional textbooks and Chinese Teaching Toolbox.It points out that the research of regional textbooks has practical significance.The regional pertinence of Chinese Teaching Toolbox should be studied from the textbooks,new words,texts,grammar,culture and exercises.Chapter two analyses and discusses the regional pertinence of Chinese Teaching Toolbox from the aspects of the proportion of cultural new words in North America,the topic arrangement of the text,the language arrangement of the text,the examples of grammar points,the types of cultural contents,and the way of arranging cultural contents.The textbooks set up a variety of new w ords related to North American culture.The topic arrangement of the textbooks pays attention to the campus life,community life and home life of North American students,and introduces Chinese traditional festivals to learners according to the situation o f North America,which has regional pertinence.According to the characteristics of North American students and their learning needs,the textbooks adopt various forms of literal translation and free translation,in which Chinese and English are compared,and the differences between Chinese grammar points and English expressions are displayed intuitively,which can reduce the difficulties of North American students who lack Chinese background knowledge in the process of understanding and cognition,and have regional pertinence.The textbooks are mainly based on Chinese culture,taking into account the cultural links between China and North America,and have regional pertinence.Chapter three analyses the regional pertinence of phonetic exercises,vocabulary exercises,grammar exercises and Chinese character exercises in Chinese Teaching Toolbox from the perspective of communicative exercises.Vocabulary exercises in textbooks focus on the overall practice of syllables and pay close attention to the daily life of North American students,which conforms to the characteristics of students' learning and has pertinence.The integration of vocabulary exercises into words reflecting North American culture that can reduce the difficulty of exercises,help students to deepen their impression of the words they have learned.The textbooks aim at the differences in English and Chinese order.Confused grammar points set up grammar exercises,grammar exercises with examples of words with North American characteristics,expla ining the subject requirements in English,reflecting regional specificity;Chinese character exercises in textbooks not only adopt the way of Chinese character display,Pinyin examples and English translation,but also insert vivid,intuitive and interesting pictures beside Chinese character examples,which conform to North American students' psychology.Chapter four compares Chinese Teaching Toolbox with New Practical Chinese Reader,and summarizes the characteristics of Chinese Teaching Toolbox in aspects of overall arrangement style,specific knowledge structure,text topic,text language,new vocabulary,new vocabulary arrangement and vocabulary hierarchy arrangement.Specifically,it includes mobilizing students' self-initiative,emphasizing reflection and evaluation,making the text structure complete and clear,emphasizing the cultivation of listening,speaking,reading and writing ability,emphasizing the cultivation of certain team cooperation and improving organizational leadership ability through group cooperation,emphasizing the selection of various practical styles,closely linking the daily life of North American learners.The annotation of the new words are scientific and concise.The arrangement of sink grade is scientific and reasonable.The fifth chapter mainly combines the research of Chinese Teaching Toolbox and puts forward suggestions for the preparation of regional textbooks.It is pointed out that the overall arrangement of regional textbooks should be orderly and enriched,in line with the learning characteristics and learning needs of regional learners,and fit the individual characteristics of students.The specific knowledge structure should be complete and clear,practical and interesting,to meet the psychological and learning characteristics of regional learners,and to focus on motivating learners' learning enthusiasm.In the arrangement of new words,the quantity of new words in each lesson should meet the requirements,and with the increase of teaching content,it should reflect the characteristics of regional culture.Around the daily life of regional learners,annotations should be refined scientifically,and phrases or sentences should be given after the expansion of new words in the context of the text.The topic of the text should be diverse and mainly based on the daily life of the regional learners.The content of the national conditions,art,culture and customs should be appropriately increased with the advancement of the teaching process.Various genres should be selected to highlight them and be based on the regional students.The personality traits are arranged in a genre,focusing on the teaching of Chinese culture,taking into account regional culture,and linking and contrasting regional culture with Chinese culture.The practice of voice exercises should include vocabulary with regional characteristics and voice exercises for students' native language features.Vocabulary exercises should include words that reflect the characteristics of the region.The types of grammar exercises should be diverse,and the questions should be set for the differences between Chinese and local languages.The types of Chinese character exercises should be diverse,flexible and interesting.They should be closely related to the daily life of the regional learners,and should be integrated with the local culture to meet the students' psychology.
