Translation Of Legal Terms In World Bank Doing Business 2018

This report is based on translating the Getting Credit – Legal Rights Questionnaire,one of the questionnaires of the Doing Business Report 2018.By analyzing problems encountered in translating legal terms,this report discusses the corresponding translation method with the help of the translation principles of legal terms.In translating this Questionnaire,the author finds it difficult in searching and confirming legal terms,for example,the legal terms to be translated cannot be found in legal dictionaries;for a certain legal term,two or more translations can be found;and due to polysemy in legal terms,it is often difficult to find the proper Chinese translation.In order to solve these problems,guided by the translation principles of systematic translation,same translation for same term,and conventional usage for certain terms,the author turns to the reliable online dictionaries and encyclopedia,authoritative legal dictionaries as well as relevant academic works and articles.Through analysis and searching,the author summarizes three methods for searching and confirming legal terms.By searching authoritative legal dictionaries,reliable online dictionaries and encyclopedia,the translation of legal terms can be basically found;and by referring to academic works and articles,such translation will be confirmed or corrected.
