Legal language is always difficult to understand because of its formal style,complicated sentence structures and terminologies. However, the metaphor in legallanguage can effectively facilitate people’s understanding. Hence, the importance oflegal metaphor comprehension and translation strengthened when the exchange oflegal culture between Chinese and Western countries occurs. This thesis divides thethinking process of the translator into multiple mental spaces to unfold the dynamictranslation process from the perspective of Conceptual Integration Theory (CIT). Thestudy commences with data collection of metaphors in legal field. Then the authorapplies the CIT to the sample cases, through the research methodology of combiningquantitative and qualitative approaches, revealing the thinking process of the translator.Moreover, three translation approaches are summarized to translate legal metaphorsbased on the preceding fruits. Therefore, this thesis will offer a new perspective to thetranslation of metaphors in legal language. |
