This is a translation report for The Restatement (Second) of Contract, which iscompiled and published by the American Law Institute (ALI). On the purpose of easyoperation for judges and lawyers, ALI collected and integrated case law andjudge-made doctrines in common law with value and effect, to order them into codeforms, so that the complicated common law is simplified and systematized. TheRestatement (Second) of Contract is one of the code. At the present time, there is nointegrated translation of this book. Translation of this book will give greatconvenience to the study of American law. This translation edition contains provisions,as well as the comments and illustrations made by the ALI.This report focuses on the translation strategies and methods used on the basis oftranslation practice of The Restatement (Second) of Contract. When there is no perfectequivalent in target language for a source language term, functional equivalents,lexical expansion and paraphrase are solutions can be used. And when facing longsentences, methods of sequential, reversing and splitting are available. As to thoseparts with different features in source text, corresponding adjustment regardingspecific features should be made in the process of translation. The last part of thisreport are experience and lessons learnt from this translation project.
