English reading plays a vital role in improving English language knowledge,which is a prerequisite for students to improve their listening,speaking,writing and other elements.For a long time,reading teaching has always been the focus of English teaching research at all levels of educational institutions.However,there are still many problems in high school English teaching: the classroom is centered on the knowledge imparted by teachers,which leads to low reading input,lack of reading interest.It is necessary for students to improve the reading ability urgently.In the 1990 s,Jeremy Harmer,a famous English language teaching expert,first proposed ESA teaching model in his book How to Teach English,deepened the research on English teaching theory and developed the English classroom teaching model.The flexibility and adaptability of this teaching model make classroom teaching more reasonable and effective,but the problems and application paths of this model in the specific application require the researchers to do a lot of experiments.On the basis of an overview of ESA teaching model theory and history,this thesis explores its impact on high school English reading teaching.The study of the entire application path addresses two issues: 1.What is the impact of ESA teaching model on students' English reading in senior high school? 2.How should teacher apply ESA teaching model to English reading teaching efficiently? Seventy-five students of Class 5,Grade 1 are chosen to be the research subjects In Xinxiang No.1 Middle School.From September 2018 to December 2018,the author started the English reading teaching under the guidance of ESA teaching model.During the experiment,the author found that students had many reading problems by the interest survey and pre-testing of the students in this class.Then the author applied ESA teaching model to English reading teaching.After the experiment,the students in this class were surveyed,interviewed and tested again.Finally,the obtained data were carefully analyzed by SPSS 17.0 and Excel 2016,and the conclusions were drawn.The research results show that after the application of ESA teaching model in English reading teaching,the students' learning attitudes and behaviors changed and the reading levels of students improved.Therefore,teachers should attribute to improve their professional qualities and teaching skills on the basis of the need and characteristics of students,and create a learning environment and build a feedback mechanism to improve the teaching practice of ESA teaching model.
