A Practice Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Labor Contracts

This translation practice report is about the labor contracts of Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp.,Beijing and ICBC Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.The main purpose of this translation task is to solve problems and difficulties and to explore the methods and skills of business contract translation by analyzing the above-mentioned labor contracts.The paper is divided into four chapters: “task description”,“task process”,“translation case analysis” and “translation practice summary”.This practical report uses the German functionalist translation theory,especially the skopostheorie,expounds the three principles of skopos,analyzes the text typology of business contract,the purpose of Chinese-English business contract translation and the application of functionalist translation theory in Chinese-English business contract translation as well as the application of skopos,to catch the whole translated text content and the overall structure.The translator makes a thorough analysis of specific cases,combining the characteristics of the business texts,specifically analyzed modal verbs,English archaism,complex sentences and sentences with no subject,etc.explains the processing methods and translation techniques of business contract translation,like embedding,cutting,reverse.The translator hopes that this translation practice can provide some help to the practitioners who will be engaged in business contract translation.Besides,through this translation practice,the translator acculmulates translation experience and improves her translation level,furthermore,the translator also has a better understanding of business contract translation,which is precious for the translator to work on related professional activities in the future.
