On The E-C Translation Of Business Contracts From The Perspective Of German Functionalist Approaches

With China deepening and widening its reform and opening-up policy, business cooperations between China and other countries will increase enormously. The position of business contracts, as the medium of trade, can not be neglected. So the quality of the translation of business contracts is very important.More and more scholars take business English as their study target with the development of international trade, but the number of scholars who study business contracts is limited. Business contract translation has been studied from the different perspectives such as stylistic and systemic functional grammar. Some useful translation methods and strategies are put forward.This paper is focused on the translation of business contracts from the perspective of German functionalist approaches. The distinguishing feature from the other related papers is that the author uses a type of business contracts—purchase contract as a basic target. Through studying the features of the purchase contract at lexical, syntactic and textual levels, the author summarizes the features of business contracts. Then the core concepts of German functionalist approaches are analyzed at macro and micro levels. In the end, the author applies the theory into the translation practices, describes the translation process and sums up translation strategy of business contracts to testify that the theory is applicable and feasible.Comparison analysis and examplication are used for studying in the paper. The author hopes that the paper can make some contributions to this field.
