| Recently,Chinese economy,particularly stock market,has become one of the world's most focuses due to the policy of reform and opening up.The translation of stock news becomes increasingly essential.Besides,the wide employment of metaphors in Chinese stock news makes it difficult to translate news into English and there are higher requirements to understand news text.China Daily is professional,which keeps up with the pace of times and has the higher circulation in the world;thus,the author chooses China Daily(Chinese Version)as translation project and translated Chinese stock news in China Daily(from January,2015 to May,2016)into English with about 12,000 Chinese characters.By translating stock news in China Daily into English,the author explores the identification of Ontological Metaphors and their C-E translations.Lakoff and Johnson distinguished Ontological Metaphors into three types:Container Metaphor,Entity and Substance Metaphor and Personification.It is found that there are more specific forms of Ontological Metaphors in Chinese stock news such as Stock Is Water,Stock Is Animal,Stock Market Is A Container The State of Stock Market Is A State of Mental Health,The State of Stock Market Is A State of Physical Health and The Stock Has Human Activity.It is easy to identify them when the source domain and target domain which is abstract have something in common and the form of metaphor is "A is B".Besides,some metaphors are not in the form of "A is B" on the surface,but through analyzing logical relationship,we can identify its connotative form of "A is B".Furthermore,as for metaphors in the translation project,the author uses three translation methods:maintaining metaphors of source text in target text,using metaphors in target language to substitute source metaphors,and transferring metaphors to meaning.Theoretically,it contributes to the study of metaphors,translation of economic news and understanding of etymological meaning.Practically,it can provide useful suggestions for financial news translation and teaching of translating economic news. |
