English vocabulary,the basis of English language learning,plays an indispensable role in teaching all the way.However,the traditional teaching method cannot reach the training purpose and time needs of vocational students' vocabulary competency.Story-based approach,a method that teachers ingeniously implement short and brief stories in class,is gradually received attention because of its functions and advantages in teaching.Based on input and output theory,it is used widely in English vocabulary teaching of primary schools and junior high schools,but seldom does it mention in vocational schools.According to previous studies,the author combines story-based approach with English vocabulary teaching in a vocational school to find out the relationship of the new method with students' interest and word acquisition.Hopefully,it can explore an effective and innovative way for English vocabulary teaching.There are three research questions in this study: 1.How is the present application of story-based approach in English vocabulary teaching of the vocational school? 2.How does story-based approach affect students' English vocabulary learning interest?3.How does story-based approach promote students' English vocabulary memorization?According to the questions listed above,50 students from two parallel classes of Grade 3 in Teng Ao Senior High School of Hai Cheng area were selected as research participants.Class 1 is called the experimental class and class 2 is referred as controlled class.To begin with,participants are involved in different activities,such as questionnaires,pre-test and post-test and interviews.Then,all the qualitative and quantitative data are collected to make an accurate and detailed analysis by SPSS at last.Through thorough studying,following conclusions are drawn: in a practical English vocabulary lesson,it mainly focuses on the traditional method which refers teachers as leaders and students as listeners with few new appearing.Integrating story-based approach to English vocabulary learning arouses students' interest and motivation in learning.Under the new teaching method,students' word memorization promotes apparently.Students not only enrich vocabulary span,but also experience the flexible use of target words,which paves the way to further study.Therefore,it is feasible for teachers to apply story-based approach into English vocabulary teaching in vocational schools.
