At present, there are some common violations in society, such as Chinese style crossing. If many people violate the rules(i.e.bad exemplary norms),will they lead to knowingly committed behaviors? How to prevent knowingly committing crimes as an individual? Therefore, this study focuses on whether individuals with high belief in a just world will resist the guidance of bad descriptive norms on violations? In this study, two studies were conducted to explore the moderating role of the belief in a just world(BJW)in the influence of bad descriptive norms on the tendency to violate rules. In Study 1,we investigated the moderating effect of BJW in the influence of bad descriptive norms on the tendency of violating the rules by using the hypothetical situation questionnaire(n = 548).In Study 2,we used experimental methods to manipulate the BJW(high BJW &low BJW &control group)and bad descriptive norms(high level group &low level group &control group)to investigate the impact of both on the tendency to violate the rules. The results show that the moderating effect of BJW is significant: when individuals hold higher BJW,the influence of bad descriptive norms on the tendency of violating regulations is not significant;but when individuals hold lower BJW,bad descriptive norms can significantly affect the tendency of violating regulations. Therefore,we come to the conclusion that the BJW can resist the negative influence of the illegal tendency caused by the bad descriptive norms. This research has theoretical significance and practical value: the research puts forward that the belief of BJW affects the tendency of violating rules as an individual level factor. On this basis, the state and society can effectively reduce the occurrence of violations by strengthening fair and just education and improving the belief of social groups in a just world.
