Writing is an important language output skill that represents the thinking ability and the integrated language skill.However,in the practice of English teaching in China,writing has always been the weakest chain of English for students,which is related to the traditional English writing teaching.Most junior high school English teachers use the method of recitation for writing teaching.This kind of mode causes students to recite mechanically and lose interest in learning.It is urgent to innovate the teaching mode of writing to increase students' interests and participation.With the development of computer and information media,the ways of communicating and expressing can be analyzed with multimodal characteristics.The traditional way of using oral or written language for communication has changed.People gradually realize that pictures,colors and sounds have the same roles of expressing meaning as words.Therefore,multimodal teaching can be tentatively used to improve teaching practice.Nowadays the student teachers should know the new teaching concept,learn multimodal instructional design so as to improve their teaching abilities by means of lesson study.Driven by this,the author explored multimodal teaching to guide students' writing,in order to increase students' interests and participation in class,and thus achieve the purpose of improving their writing ability eventually.Under this background,the study embeds multimodal theory to the writing teaching design,aiming to explore how teaching is improved with the aid of lesson study.Italso investigates whether students' participation has improved with the improvement of teaching design,and what is the effect of learning with multimodal teaching.First of all,the author used a questionnaire survey to know the learning situation.According to the situation and the analysis of teaching materials,the author designed a writing lesson.An adviser was invited to observe the class and fill in the observation scale.Second,the author analyzed the students' composition.Then,the author got the feedback of this class by interviewing students and the adviser.Through the above feedback,the author reflected on her teaching.Then,the instructional design was further modified and improved.After it,this cycle was repeated once again in another teaching practice of writing lesson to consolidate and further improve the teaching design based on multimodal teaching.The results of lesson study shows that the integration of various modes works better,especially for the purpose of deepening students' impression.The practice of multimodal teaching enhances students' participation.The analysis of students' compositions show that their learning efficiency is greatly improved both from the content aspect and the language aspect.
