A Study On The Guards Of The Southeast Area In The Middle And Early Northern Song Dynasty

Guards were the main fighting forces of the Northern Song Dynasty.The construction of the Guards by the rulers was one of the core contents of the military system of the Northern Song Dynasty.Taking the Guards of the southeast as the breakthrough point,this paper combs the evolution process of the Guards system of the southeast in the middle and early period of the Northern Song Dynasty.The first chapter investigates the origin and lineage of the Gao family in detail,clarifies the basic information of each family member in the existing historical materials,introduces the political and literary achievements of the elite members,and compiles a detailed genealogy chart in chronological order,sorting out the specific manifestations of the initial prosperity,prosperity and decline of the family.The Song Taizu and Emperor Taizong of Song period was a period of exploration of the Guards system in southeast China.During this period,on the one hand,the rulers absorbed the elite soldiers from southeast China into the central government,on the one hand,from other areas to send a small number of Guards to the southeast to defend.The Emperor Zhenzong of Song period was a pivotal period in which the Praetorian Guards system underwent a major transformation.During this period,the construction of the system of the Guards in the southeast mainly revolved around three parts: First,the initial formation of the Guards in the southeast during the Xianping Period;Secondly,after Jingde,the construction of the local Guards in the southeast came to a halt;Third,during this period,the Guards in the southeast had begun to be able to maintain local security on their own.The Emperor Renzong of Song Period was a time when the system of the Guards in the southeast was gradually taking shape.During this period,the garrison area of the Guards in the southeast was expanded,and the local Guards in the south-east gradually replaced the Guards from other areas as the main force guarding the south-east.After Huang You,the emperor also made certain adjustments to the military command system in the southeast,especially in Guangxi.After this reorganization,the system of the Guards in southeast began to be standardized gradually,the local forces in southeast were strengthened obviously,and the military system construction in southeast and even the whole country officially entered a brand-new stage.In a word,the analysis of the evolution of the Guards system in the middle and early period of the Northern Song Dynasty should be based on the concrete political and military situation.On the contrary,the changes of the Guards system in the middle and early period of the Northern Song Dynasty reflect the general trend of the military system in this period.In addition,by comparing the Guards system between the southeast and northwest regions,researchers can enrich their understanding of the relationship between the southeast and northwest regions and their respective regional characteristics.
