After entering the 21 st century,scholars have carried out extensive research on English autonomous learning and achieved remarkable results.English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2017)emphasizes that it is necessary to encourage students to master language knowledge and skills gradually under the guidance of teachers and form effective learning strategies,and develop the ability of autonomous learning and awareness.By consulting the relevant domestic literature,it is found that the research focus in the study of English autonomous learning in primary and middle schools of China has been mainly on the Han students,and there is no special study on the Dai junior Middle-school students' English autonomous learning in Xishuangbanna.Therefore,the investigation and research of the Dai students' English autonomous learning in Menghan Junior Middle School of Xishuangbanna is helpful to provide some guidance for the Dai students' autonomous learning and some effective suggestions for the English educations in the Dai area.Based on the empirical research,this study has conducted a questionnaire survey on three hundred Dai students in Menghan Junior Middle School of Xishuangbanna,and then carried out face-to-face interviews with 6 Dai students before using SPSS23.0 to analyze the data of the questionnaires.This study focuses on the following questions: 1.What is the general situation of the Dai junior middle-school students' English autonomous learning? 2.What is the relationship between the seven dimensions of English autonomous learning and the following aspects including the Dai students' English achievements,genders and self-evaluation of English proficiency?The research results are as follows: 1.The Dai junior middle-school students' English autonomous learning is at a medium level,and there is still much room for improvement.The 48 items of the English autonomous learning scale reveal that these students are generally at a medium level,among which the mean score of the learning methods is the highest,and the learning environment is the lowest.2.The Dai Students' English achievements,genders and self-evaluation of Englishproficiency have a fairly closer relationship with learning motivations,learning methods and learning results and learning environments among the seven dimensions.And the learning result is the most important predictor.According to the above research findings,the author puts forward some corresponding suggestions for both the teachers and students,and points out the limitations of this research.Finally,the author provides some suggestions for the future studies in this field.
