In English teaching of junior middle schools, information technology,as an advanced means of education, has a certain positive impact on the development of students' subjectivity, but there are also some unfavorable factors. It is of great significance to analyze the unfavorable factors to improve students' English autonomous learning ability and the quality of elementary English teaching. In this thesis, there are two research questions:(1)what is the current situation of the junior middle school students' autonomous English learning ability in the information technology environment?(2)what are the favorable and unfavorable factors in using information technology to learn English autonomously? The research subjects are 108 students from two classes of Grade one in No.2 Junior Middle School of Tongcheng. This research is mainly based on a questionnaire survey, supplemented by class observation and interview. It is found that students' autonomous English learning ability is at the medium level. And there are both favorable and unfavorable factors in using information technology to learn English autonomously.Although students' self-efficacy,learning interest, the ability of overcoming difficulties,self-examination and self-evaluation in English learning are improved in the information technology environment, yet their initiative consciousness and value consciousness are weak, their ability of choosing learning content independently, time management,self-monitoring,and self-summary is poor. Therefore, the author puts forward some suggestions on how to cultivate junior middle school students' autonomous English learning ability in the information technology environment as follows:(1)Students should set up learning objectives and stimulate their learning motivation;(2)Students should make a learning plan and arrange a reasonable time to keep themselves in the best state of study all the time;(3)Students should make full use of information technology to choose learning content under theguidance of teachers;(4)Students should carry out self-monitoring and self-summary in the process of learning;(5)Teachers should pay attention to the implementation of the student-oriented concept in the process of teaching;(6)Teachers should apply various evaluation methods to English teaching. The author hopes these suggestions can be helpful to improve students' autonomous English learning ability in the information technology environment in junior middle schools.
