With the rapid development of China's economy and the increasing frequency of foreign exchange,English has become an indispensable language tool,and more and more attention has been paid to English teaching in China.As a non-English speaking country,English teaching in China is largely realized through reading,especially in senior high schools.The teaching of reading is the core of English teaching in senior high schools.However,for the students with English learning difficulties,most of them don't get high scores in the part of reading,which affects the overall scores of English subjects.Based on this,the purpose of this study is to explore the existing English reading obstacles and reasons of the students with learning difficulties,and then put forward some countermeasures to improve the reading status of the students with English learning difficulties in senior high schools.This study aims to solve two problems:(1)What are the reading obstacles of the students with English learning difficulties in senior high schools? What are the causes?(2)In the practical English teaching,what measures should be taken to help them overcome these reading obstacles? In order to solve these problems,this study adopts the methods of test,questionnaire and interview.Before the implementation of the study,the author tested the second year senior high school students in Jilin City twice,and selected the last 20% of the average score,a total of 288 students as the object of the study.The author developed a questionnaire about English reading obstacles,and tested its reliability and validity with SPSS 23.0 statistical analysis software.After reaching the standard,288 students with learning difficulties accepted the questionnaire.The author used SPSS 23.0 statistical analysis software to analyze the data of the questionnaire.Besides,the author made an in-depth analysis of the scores of the 288 students' reading part and obtained corresponding data.For one-on-one interview,the author randomly selected 20 students with learning difficulties and 10 English teachers.The author analyzed the results of the interviews,as a supplementand reference to the results of the questionnaire.After analyzing the results of the questionnaire and interview,the author concludes that there are many obstacles in English reading for the students with English learning difficulties in senior high schools,which can be roughly divided into two categories: language obstacles and non-language obstacles.Among them,language obstacles include vocabulary,grammar,discourse,genre and theme;non-language obstacles include reading motivation,reading habits,cultural background and reading strategies.The obstacles in these aspects directly or indirectly affect their English reading ability,which leads to their unsatisfactory English performance.In order to help students with learning difficulties overcome these English reading obstacles,the author puts forward some feasible countermeasures and suggestions from six aspects for students and teachers.The author hopes that these countermeasures and suggestions can be used for reference to the practical teaching of English reading in senior high schools,and also inspire the students with English learning difficulties,so as to improve the status of English reading,and really improve their English reading ability.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part,which mainly introduces research background,research purpose,research problems,research significance,and the structure of this paper.The second chapter is literature review,which mainly includes definitions of students with learning difficulties and English reading obstacles,the theoretical basis of this research,and the review of relevant research at home and abroad.The third chapter is the research design,which introduces research object,research tools and design,data collections and analysis.The fourth chapter is the research results and discussions,which mainly introduce the results of this research,summarize two different types of English reading obstacles and their causes,and then put forward some countermeasures and suggestions.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which mainly introduces the main findings,limitations of this research and suggestions for further research.
