This report is an English-Chinese translation practice report of science and technology, excerpted from Sundaland—Tracing the Cradle of Civilizations(Chapter Two)written by Dhani Irwanto. The content of source text is wide-ranging,involving geology, archaeology, anthropology, and biology.Chapter two gives a comprehensive introduction to early human migration, including human migration causes, migration patterns and their remains of civilization. This report first introduces the author and the content of the original content. After an analysis of content and language feature of the original text, the report summarizes the translation difficulties in the process of translation and provides the corresponding solutions. There are translation difficulties in lexical level and syntactic level. To achieve standard translation of terms, techniques of looking up professional dictionaries and parallel materials are adopted, and footnotes are added to make translation smooth and easy to understand.Translation of nominalization is also a difficulty and conversion of words and ingredients is used to make the translation accord with the expression of Chinese habit. Two types of sentences are analyzed in the report: attributive clauses and the appositive clauses. The translator deals with attributive clauses by synchronizing and reversing according to their logic orders.Techniques of combination, division and conversion are used in translating appositive clauses in different contexts. In this translation practice process, the translator finds some translation limitations both in Chinese writing skills and English understanding ability. These translation abilities should be improved in further study.
